Dependence on alcohol or alcohol abuse is a common feature that is steadily on a high among the individuals trying to keep pace with a page 3 lifestyle. Such patients need immediate attention, as not only they but also those around them are affected by their ways. Alcoholics commonly suffer from regular bouts of depression, violent behavior (often leading to physical and mental abuse of family members), low self esteem, loss of concentration and their discerning ability and the likes. You can make out from the ways if a person is drunk, right? Thats what we are talking about. Alcoholic treatment is offered by many private and public institutions, and complete recovery is possible in most of those cases.
Alcohol abuse is a progressively deteriorating situation, and unfortunately people keep postponing their treatment until they are not left with an alternative, which usually is the case, as treatment for alcohol abuse is usually attached with a lot of social stigma. Suddenly the patient starts getting treated as an orphan, when all he has done is shown the willpower to get out of the trouble he is in! Traditional alcoholic treatment often entails staying away from career and family. As a result, many patients feel pain, shame and depressed. Alcoholic treatment aims at eliminating these factors; we have various programs that are aimed at ignoring the feeling of stigma, shame and low self esteem that the patients commonly feel during the rehabilitation period.
Another fear that keeps patients away from going for alcoholic treatment is the factor that most traditional methods employed make people feel as if they are serving a sentence - they are treated as the wrong-doers, which by Jove they are not! New institutions with new philosophies are coming up that are trying to do away with this feeling. This is the need of the hour, you cant treat a patient inhumanely. The patients are treated with due respect, and are not made to suffer any painful alienation for long periods of time. Not alienating is in fact an integral part of the treatment process!
New methods of treatment for alcoholics aim at concentrated and speedy results and complete freedom from alcohol dependence. Most institutions have an initial orientation that can be attended by the patients spouse or other members. All formalities of paper work are taken care of during this initial orientation program. The orientation also includes sessions of counseling, which aims at doing away with the traditional notions about alcoholic treatment. Everything is done with respect, you shall not be made to feel like you have done a crime by abusing alcohol.
The orientation is followed by a concentrated session of treatment. Medication is administered which fights against and eliminates the craving for alcohol consumption. Suppression of the urge to consume alcohol is the main aim of this session. This is really the key to a long term freedom from dependence on alcohol. Most rehab centers that undertake alcoholic treatment have a one on one session with the patient and his/ her family member or friends to devise an individualized treatment plan. Such tailor made solutions cater to the special needs of each particular individual.
The next step that most rehab centers advice is getting back to normal life and face the challenges of normal life pressures without the dependence on alcohol. To hell with what the colleague is whispering about you! It is your life, and you have regained control of it. Counseling is provided to face this challenge and overcome it, followed by regaining focus on looking ahead and thinking positive, which eliminates any doubts that may be left in the mind.
Optimizing life forces and positive thinking is a very important part of alcoholic treatment, and the participation of the patients near and dear ones is solicited by all rehab centers.
